Being in the Kharawala Compound means we are in the heart of the Behrampura area of Ahmedabad. Our specific spot is within the Siddhi Suri Industry premises. It’s quite easy to find us because we are right across from the Suez Treatment Plant. That landmark helps people who are coming here for the first time. The compound itself is a bit of a busy, crowded place. There are always trucks backing in and out. Being in the dyestuff business means our hands are rarely clean. There’s always a bit of pigment under our fingernails or on our clothes. We don't mind it much. It’s just part of the job. The workspace is a bit old and the walls have seen better days. We have a lot of vats and mixing equipment scattered around. It’s not an organized corporate environment. It’s more of a functional mess that we understand perfectly. In the Ahmedabad heat, the shop can get quite stuffy, but we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze there is. We’ve been in the 380 022 area for a long time. Most of us have been working together for years. We don't talk much while we work; we just get the batches ready and loaded up. It’s a steady life. We don't have any big goals other than finishing the day's work and heading home to our families. We are just regular people making dyes.
