Ambica Brass Metal Works

Our workshop, Ambica Brass Metal Works, is over in Yogeshwari Estate. We are right across from where the Gujarat Bottling plant is. If you see the State Bank of India in Rakhial, you’re pretty close. We specialize in brass parts, mostly small things that go into bigger machines. Brass is a nice material to work with, but it’s gotten expensive lately. We have some old-style furnaces and casting equipment. It’s hot work, especially in the afternoons. My father started this place, and I’ve been running it for a while now. We have about six guys who work the floor. They’ve got a good rhythm going. We don't have any fancy mission statements or anything. We just make the parts people ask for. Sometimes we get orders for things we’ve never made before, so we have to sit down and figure out the molds. It takes some trial and error. The estate can be a bit cramped, and parking is a nightmare if you have a big truck. But we’ve been here so long we don't really think about it. We just open the shutters in the morning and get to work. It’s a simple life, making things out of metal and making sure the orders are ready on time. We don't ask for much else besides a steady stream of work to keep everyone busy.
