Working at Z P School No 2 in Dithavar feels very connected to the local area around Fatehpur Sikri. You can feel the history of Agra all around, but inside the school, it’s just the usual daily grind. We’re located in Vill-Dithavar, which is a bit of a walk from the main tourist spots, so it’s much quieter here. The morning starts with us unlocking the heavy doors and sweeping out the dust that always seems to settle overnight. It’s a small school, number two in the area, and we mostly serve the local families who live right here in the village. We have a few rooms for the different grades, and things can get a bit crowded when everyone shows up at once. The furniture is old, mostly wood and metal that’s been repaired a dozen times. We don’t have any fancy computers or big libraries, just our voices and whatever materials we can find. Life in Dithavar is slow and predictable, which suits the school just fine. We see the same faces every day, from the kids to their parents who are often busy with farming or local trade. We just focus on the basics of reading and writing. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s an important one for the people living near Fatehpur Sikri. We just keep going, day after day.
