Yashoda Devi School

Our school is tucked away in Vill Garhi Jahan Singh, near Shamashabad in the Agra district. It’s called Yashoda Devi School. Most people around here just know it as the local school by the side of the road. We are quite far from the main city of Agra, so it's mostly a local affair with people from the village. The school is a simple structure where we teach the younger kids their basics. It’s a bit of a walk from the main part of Shamsabad, but the kids manage to get here every morning. We have a few rooms and a small open area for them to move around. On rainy days, the ground gets a bit muddy and messy, but that's just how it is in the village. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who live nearby and handle everything from the teaching to the cleaning. The kids bring their own lunches and sit together under the shade of the trees when it's hot. It’s a very practical environment for everyone. We don't use much technology, mostly just chalk and boards and old books. People in the village trust us with their children because we’ve been part of the community for a long time. It’s a modest place, really. We just focus on making sure the kids learn how to read and do their sums correctly. There's no big sign or anything flashy, just the gate and the sound of children's voices. It feels like home for most of us who spend our days here.
