M A Beauty Parlour

You can find us at Kehrai More, right on Shamshabad Road in Agra. We are very close to the Agra Panna Palace, which is a big landmark around here. My shop is mainly for women who live in the nearby colonies. I started this in a small room and slowly added more things as I could afford them. It’s not a very big parlour. We have a couple of mirrors and some shelves for our threads and creams. Mostly, women come in for regular things like eyebrows or getting their hair trimmed. Sometimes for a wedding, we get more busy and have to bring in extra help from the family. The road outside is always loud with tractors and cars going by, but we keep the door closed to keep the dust out. It’s a bit of a squeeze when we have four or five ladies waiting, but everyone is patient. We talk about local news and what’s happening in the market while we work. I don't use any fancy machines, just my hands and some basic tools I've had for a long time. It’s a simple business. I like being my own boss. We open up around ten in the morning and stay until the last customer is done. Usually, that’s around eight at night. It’s a lot of standing, but I’m used to it now. We just do our work and hope people are happy when they leave.
