Our yard is right on the Kanpur- Agra Highway, NH-2. It is easy to find because we are quite close to the Chalesar Police Chauki. If you are driving past and see Mahaveer Dhaba, you’ve basically reached us here in Chhalesar Kuberpur. The ground is always covered in a bit of grey dust because of all the cement we handle. We make different things out of concrete like blocks and pipes. It is heavy work and we spend most of the day outdoors regardless of if it is raining or burning hot. The noise from the highway never really stops, so you get used to the sound of the big lorries speeding past toward Agra. We don't have a polished showroom. It’s just the stacks of finished products sitting out in the sun waiting to be loaded. Sometimes the local farmers come by for a few blocks, or contractors stop their trucks to check on an order. We mostly just keep an eye on the mixing and the molds to make sure things set right. It is a simple life out here on the edge of the road. We usually eat our lunch under the shade of the small tin roof near the entrance. If you need someone, we are usually just walking around the yard with a clipboard. It’s a basic setup but it works for what we do and we keep the concrete moving every single day. There is no point in being fancy when you are working with wet cement.
