Our office for Binani Cement Ltd is at 3-F in the Bheron Market area of Belanganj. It is right in the heart of the trading district, so it is always crowded. The streets are narrow, and there are carts and people everywhere. Our space is on the upper floor, so we can look down at the madness below. It is a small room, mostly filled with files and a couple of desks for the staff. We spend the day taking calls from dealers and coordinating the cement deliveries to different parts of the city. Belanganj has a certain smell and feel to it that you only get in old market areas. We don't have a lot of space for storage here, so it’s mostly just administrative stuff and sales work. The building is old, and the stairs are a bit steep. Sometimes we go downstairs to grab a quick lunch or some tea from the vendors in the lane. It’s a noisy place to work, but you get used to the shouting and the bells of the cycles. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a fancy showroom. It is just a practical spot to do business in a part of town where everyone else is doing the same. We stay late most nights until the day's accounts are balanced and the phone stops ringing.
