We are situated in the Unis Building, right across from Collectorate Road. It’s a busy spot, especially in the mornings when everyone is heading to work. The workshop is at 31/280, and you can usually hear the sound of metal being worked on before you even see the door. It’s dusty and loud, but that’s how a metal craft shop should be. We have tools everywhere—drills, saws, and bits of scrap metal waiting to be used for something else. Most of us have been working with our hands since we were kids. It’s not the kind of place where you wear a suit. We wear heavy boots and old shirts that don’t mind getting dirty. The Unis Building has seen better days, but it’s sturdy and the rent is fair. We spend most of our time bending, cutting, or polishing. Sometimes a customer comes in with a drawing on a napkin and we try to figure out how to make it for them. It’s honest work and we take our time with it. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing team. If people like what we do, they tell their friends. That’s how we’ve stayed in business all this time. The fans run all day to keep the air moving, and we usually have the radio playing in the background. It’s a gritty job, but there is something nice about finishing a piece and seeing it shine.
