Alka General Suppilers

Raja Mandi is always full of life and people. Our shop, Alka General Suppliers, is at 29/40-A. It’s a tight space but we manage to fit a lot in there. We supply all sorts of general things that people need. Every morning starts the same way, unlocking the shutters and moving things around so we have room to stand. It’s a bit of a squeeze. We’ve been in Raja Mandi for years and we know most of the other shopkeepers. We talk about the weather and the price of things over tea. It’s a very local way of living. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where 29/40-A is. The shelves are packed high and sometimes you have to use a ladder to get what someone wants. It’s dusty work and by the end of the day, we are pretty tired. But it’s a good kind of tired. We see a lot of different people every day. Some are in a hurry and some want to stay and chat. We try to be helpful without making a big deal out of it. It’s just a general store in a busy market. We do our best to keep things in stock and ready for customers. That’s about all there is to it. We close up when the sun goes down and start again tomorrow without fail.
