Morabia Marble

Our shop is out in the Riico Industrial Area in Sirohi. It is right near the New Chandrawati growth centre, which is basically where all the heavy work happens. Out here, the wind blows the sand around a lot. We have the machines running from early morning until the evening. It’s a lot of noise. We take these big blocks that come from the local mines and we have to get them cut down to size. There are usually a few of us around, wearing boots and trying to keep things moving. We don't really have a front desk or anything like that. If you come by, you’ll probably find us near the cutters or checking the edges of the slabs. Some days it gets incredibly hot, and we just sit in the shade for a bit with some water. The yard is full of off-cuts and pieces we couldn't use. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s not a quiet place at all. You can hear the saws from down the road. Sometimes customers come in with specific measurements on a scrap of paper. We try to find what they need in the piles. It is hard on the back, but we have been doing it for years now. The machinery needs a lot of grease and looking after. It is a messy and loud environment.
