Orient Craft Limited

Our place is on the first floor at Ja/2D in Hari Nagar, over in the Mayapuri area. It’s a heavy industrial kind of neighborhood where people really work for a living. You can hear metal clanging and engines running from the scrap shops nearby all day. Orient Craft Limited fits right in there because we are always busy too. We aren't a high-end boutique with a glass front. We’re a working floor where things actually get made. The stairs are a bit narrow and the lighting in the hallway isn't the best, but we have plenty of room for our equipment inside. We spend our days checking seams and looking at patterns for the next batch. It gets really hot in Mayapuri during May and June, almost unbearable some days. We just drink a lot of water and keep the machines running anyway. We don’t have a website that looks like a fancy magazine. We just have our address and the work we produce. Most of the people who work here live nearby and walk to the building. We’ve known each other for a long time, so it's a tight group. It feels more like a community than a company sometimes. We don't have fancy meetings in boardrooms. We just stand around the main cutting table and talk about what needs to be done. It’s a bit messy with scraps everywhere, but it’s our mess. We’ve been in this building for years.
