Maestro Salon

Our shop is at B 81 on Suraj Prakash Marg. It’s easy to find if you know where Arora Paneer Store or Gopal Dawa Khana are in West Patel Nagar. We’ve been here for a good while. The street is usually busy with people buying groceries or medicine. Inside Maestro Salon, it’s mostly just us and the sound of the fans. We do the basic stuff like haircuts and shaves. It’s not a fancy place with expensive furniture. Just sturdy chairs and good scissors. We spend a lot of time cleaning up after each person. The mirrors are large and show everything. We have a small sink in the back for hair washes. Sometimes the water takes a minute to get warm. We see the same neighbors every month. It’s a predictable routine. We start in the morning and keep going until the evening. The floor is tile and it gets slippery if we aren't careful with the water. We keep some old newspapers around for people waiting. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when the shop is full. West Patel Nagar is a tight community, and we feel like a part of it. We just focus on the task at hand and try to stay busy. It’s a simple shop for a simple haircut.
