Kumar Confectionery Shop

If you walk down toward Gulabi Bagh A-114 in Uttam Nagar, you’ll find our little confectionery shop right there on the corner. It has been our family’s spot for a long time. The wooden shelves are old and have been repainted a few times, mostly in a dull cream color that doesn't show the dirt too much. We keep all sorts of things like biscuits, candies, and some basic groceries that people might need in a hurry. The morning starts early here, usually around seven when the bread delivery truck pulls up and makes a lot of noise. We spend the first hour just stacking things and checking what we ran out of the day before. The ceiling fan wobbles a little when it is on the high setting, but it keeps the air moving during those hot Delhi afternoons. Customers usually just pop in for a minute, grab what they want, and head out, but some of the older men like to hang around and talk about the weather or the local news. We don't have a big staff, just me and my brother taking turns at the register. It gets dusty because of the construction happening down the street, so we are always wiping down the glass jars. It is a plain shop, nothing special to look at, but it keeps us busy from morning till night. We just try to keep the stock fresh and the counter clear for the next person.
