We are up on the second floor of D-45 in Bali Nagar. You have to walk up the stairs, which can be a bit much in the heat, but it’s quieter up here than on the street level. We have a few windows that look out over the neighborhood, so we can see what’s going on outside while we work. The main room is filled with sewing machines and long tables where we spread everything out. It’s usually a bit of a mess with threads and needles lying around, but we know where everything is. The light is okay during the day, but we have some extra lamps for when it gets dark and we’re still trying to finish up a batch of work. G K. Fashions isn't a big corporate office; it’s more like a workshop where we spend eight or nine hours a day just getting things done. Sometimes the neighbors come by to chat for a minute. We mostly focus on making sure the stitches are tight and the fabric isn't wasted. There's always a radio playing somewhere in the background, usually some old songs that everyone knows. We don't have any fancy displays or a big showroom. It’s just us, some chairs, and a lot of work to do. We keep a stash of biscuits in the drawer for when we get hungry in the middle of the afternoon. It’s just life in Bali Nagar.
