Ashok Nagar is a place where everyone seems to be in a hurry, but at Bhavishya Jyoti, we try to slow things down. Our address is 60 22, and it’s a simple setup. I’ve got a small sign out front that I painted myself a few years ago. It’s a bit crooked, but it does the job. Inside, there’s an old rug on the floor and a couple of shelves filled with almanacs and old guides. I’ve always liked the name Bhavishya Jyoti because it sounds like a small light in a dark room. That’s how I think of this place. We don’t have a receptionist or anything like that. When the bell rings, I just get up and open the door. Most days are steady. I spend a lot of time looking at maps and dates. It’s work that requires a lot of patience. Sometimes people come in with very big questions, and other times they just want to know if next week will be better than this one. I try to be honest with them. There’s no point in making things up. The tea shop across the road makes the best ginger tea, and I usually have a few cups while I work. The floorboards creak when you walk near the back window, but I’ve gotten used to the sound. It’s a plain, honest business. We do what we can to help people find their way. The door handle sticks sometimes, so you have to pull hard.
