Devaiah Auto Services is at H. No -1-31 in Gundrathimadugu. This is in the Kuravi area. The shop is basically an open garage where we work on all kinds of vehicles. There is always oil on the floor and the smell of grease in the air. We have racks of tools along the walls and some old tires stacked up in the back. Most of the work involves fixing engines or changing parts that have worn out from the rough roads. The sun beats down on the corrugated roof and makes it quite warm inside by noon. We have a big workbench that is covered in bolts and metal scraps. Sometimes we have to wait a few days for parts to arrive from the city. The customers are mostly locals who bring in their bikes or cars when something starts making a strange noise. We use a lot of rags to clean our hands but they always seem to stay a bit black from the engines. There is a small bench out front where people sit and talk while we look at their machines. The road outside is dusty and the wind blows a lot of it into the shop. We keep a water pot in the shade to stay hydrated. It’s a simple life of fixing things and keeping people moving. We shut the big metal doors at night and head home to wash off the grit.
