At Krishnamurthi Auto Services, we handle a lot of mechanical work. The shop is at H. No:-3-36 in Machapur, Geesugonda. It is a local garage where we fix mostly two-wheelers and the occasional larger vehicle that comes through the village. I have been working with tools since I was young. Machapur is a quiet village, but people still need their transport to be working so they can get to the fields or the city. I spend a lot of time sitting on a small stool or on the ground, taking apart engines. There is always a smell of petrol and old oil in the air. My hands are never really clean, even after scrubbing them. We don't have fancy diagnostic computers or anything like that. We just listen to the engine and figure out what is wrong by experience. Sometimes it is just a spark plug, other times the whole engine needs to be opened up. It is a lot of physical work. People drop off their bikes in the morning and hope to have them back by evening. I try my best to get them done. The shop is just a simple structure with a roof to keep the sun off. We have a few shelves for spare parts and old tires piled up in the corner. It is a steady life here in Geesugonda, just fixing one thing after another and helping the neighbors stay mobile.
