Balaji Pindi Girni

This is our flour mill, Balaji Pindi Girni, located in Kannaraopet at house number 1-122. We are out in the Nallabelly area of Warangal. If you come by, you will hear the machines before you see the shop. It is a noisy place because the grinders are almost always running. We get a lot of people from the village bringing in their bags of grain, mostly wheat or chili or whatever else they need turned into powder. The air inside is always a bit white from the flour floating around, and it gets on your clothes and hair if you stay too long. My aprons are always covered in it. We have been doing this in Kannaraopet for a long time now. It’s a simple living. We don't have fancy packaging or anything; people just bring their own bags or containers and we fill them up once the grinding is finished. The machines need a lot of oiling and sometimes they break down, which is a real headache because people are waiting. We try to keep everything moving. It’s hot in here during the summer because of the motors running all day. But it’s a necessary thing for the kitchen, so folks keep coming back. We know everyone’s name around here. We just work from morning until the last bag is done. It’s just us and the sound of the mill day in and day out. Sometimes people stay for a chat while they wait.
