The water is right there, and it’s a very well-known landmark for everyone in Bhelpur. We work with flowers every single day. My hands usually smell like marigolds or roses by the time I go home in the evening. We start very early in the morning when the fresh stock arrives from the market. It’s a lot of cutting, tying, and arranging. We do decorations for weddings, small pujas, and even cars for special occasions. The shop is small and can get quite messy with all the stems and leaves on the floor. Varanasi has a lot of festivals, so there are days when we don't even have time to sit down for a meal. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who know how to handle the flowers without bruising them. People in the neighborhood know us by name. They just stop by on their scooter and tell us what they need for their house or ceremony. We don't do much advertising at all. The flowers speak for themselves when they are hanging up at an event. It’s hard work, standing on your feet all day, but seeing a finished stage looks good. We just keep doing our thing, day after day, year after year.
