Raj Choreographer

I work out of Mahmoorganj in Varanasi, right on Mahmoorganj Road. The place for Raj Choreographer is quite near the Usha Gupta Hospital, so it’s easy to find if you know that landmark. Varanasi is a busy city, and this area is no exception. There’s always the sound of rickshaws and people talking outside. My space isn't a massive dance hall with mirrors on every wall. It’s a more modest setup where we can get together and work on routines. We have enough room to move around, but it’s definitely not a high-end studio. Most days involve a lot of music and trying to get the steps right. It can get quite hot in here, especially when we’re moving a lot, so the fans are always going full speed. We keep some extra clothes and water bottles scattered around. It’s a very practical environment. I don't really go for a polished look in the office area. It’s more about the practice. Being on Mahmoorganj Road is great because it’s a central part of town and people can get here without too much trouble. Sometimes the traffic is a bit of a nightmare, but that’s just life in Varanasi. We’ve been here for a while, and the neighbors are used to hearing the music by now. It’s just a local place where we focus on the dancing and don't worry too much about having a fancy office.
