Our place is at Kamachha Crossing in Varanasi. It’s right there in the middle of everything. If you know the area, you know how busy it gets with the rickshaws and people constantly moving through the intersection. The address is just Kamachha, and we have been in this spot for quite some time. The rooms have large windows but we usually keep the curtains pulled because of the sun. Inside, there are rows of wooden benches and desks. Some of them have scratches from years of use. We have a small office area where we keep the files and the attendance books. Varanasi is hot for most of the year so the coolers are always running. You can hear the hum of the machines while the lessons are going on. We often have to speak up to be heard over the noise from the street. Students bring their own water bottles and leave them in the corner. There is a small tea stall nearby where we go during the breaks. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but for now, they are covered with old notices and schedules. It feels like a second home because we spend so many hours here every single day. We open early and stay until the sun goes down and the street lights at the crossing come on. It is a very normal, hardworking environment with no frills at all.
