Ambika Academy

We are situated near the Bypass in Shivpur, Varanasi. It is a fairly easy place to find once you get off the main road and head towards our area. The academy is basically a set of rooms where we have put up some whiteboards and benches for the students to sit. Because we are near the bypass, it can get a bit noisy with the horns from the trucks, but the students seem to tune it out after a while. We started this place because there weren't many options for extra help with school studies in this neighborhood. We are not a big institution with a lot of branches in the city. It is just this one spot where we work. We spend our mornings preparing for the classes and our evenings teaching the kids who show up. The rooms can get a bit warm in the summer, so we keep the fans running at full speed all the time. Sometimes we run out of markers or the electricity goes out, and we have to use old-fashioned chalk on the boards. We don't have a big team of people working here. It is just a few of us who know the subjects well enough to teach. We keep the books on some old metal shelves in the corner. It is a simple setup meant for learning. We don't do much besides teaching and checking homework. It is a quiet life for us here.
