This part of Vadodara is always humming with noise. My spot is on Baburao Bobde Marg, right in the thick of the Iron and Street Market. If you look across the road, you'll see the Amba Mata Temple. It’s a landmark for everyone around here. Being in Carnac Bunder means dealing with a lot of dust and heavy trucks. My name is Patel Mohammad Sadik I, and I’ve spent more years here than I can count. The shop is full of stuff, mostly metal and tools, and it smells like iron and old oil. It isn't the cleanest place, but it’s where I work. The floor is concrete and stained from years of use. I usually have a radio playing somewhere in the back to drown out the traffic. People come in from the market all day. Some are looking for specific parts, others just want to talk about the weather or the price of goods. It’s a rough area but very honest. You see people working hard every single day. The heat can be brutal in the summer, especially with all the metal around, but we have a big old fan that helps. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are. Opposite the temple, near the corner—that’s where you’ll find me most days of the week, just keeping things moving as they always have for years.
