Kitchen Corner

Our little shop is right here in Vadodara 7. It is not a big place with glass windows and air conditioning. We just have the one shutter that we roll up every morning around nine. If you walk inside, you will see shelves packed with all sorts of things for the house. We have tiffins, water bottles, and those heavy steel pots that last forever. Some of the boxes on the top shelves have been there for a while and they have a bit of dust on them. We try to keep things neat but when customers come in and look through everything, it gets messy again pretty fast. The floor is just plain stone and it stays cool even when the sun is hitting the front of the shop. Mostly it is just us here, sitting behind the small wooden desk near the entrance. We handle the cash and help people find the right size of lid for their cookers. Sometimes the neighbors from the other shops come by for a quick chat or to share some tea. It is a quiet kind of business most days. We do not do any big advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here on the corner. If someone needs a new rolling pin or a sturdy bucket, they usually just walk over. It feels like a part of the neighborhood now after all these years of being in this same spot.
