Our workshop, Kamlesh Gadi Factory, is located in Pratap Nagar, right near the Gandhi Oil Mil. You can usually tell when you are getting close because of the specific smell from the oil mill that hangs in the air. We spend most of our time working with cotton, foam, and various fabrics to make gadies. It’s a lot of manual labor, stuffing the covers and making sure everything is even so it feels right. The floor is usually covered in little bits of white fluff, and we have to sweep it out at least three times a day just to see the ground. It’s a simple setup we have here. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights and carpets. Instead, we have stacks of finished work and rolls of material waiting to be used. The neighbors know us well, and we often share a bit of talk during the slow hours in the afternoon. Being in Pratap Nagar is good because it’s a practical place for a factory like ours. We don't use big automated machines for everything; a lot of the gadies are made by hand using the same methods we’ve used for years. It takes more time, but the results are what people expect when they come to see us. We just keep our heads down and keep making things, day after day, near the mill and the traffic. That is our life here.
