Jai Shree Bhatiji Gadi Centre

Jai Shree Bhatiji Gadi Centre is our place in Tarunnagar. Specifically, we are at 142 Tarunnagar in Vadodara. If you walk down our street, you’ll see our shop with various mattresses and bedding items stacked up. We call it a Gadi centre because that is what we do—making and selling the traditional cotton mattresses and cushions that people use. The workspace is usually covered in cotton fluff and fabric scraps because we are always putting something together. It’s not a polished store; it’s more of a workshop where we actually do the filling and stitching. Tarunnagar is a busy residential part of the city, so we have neighbors around us all the time. Sometimes people bring in their old mattresses to be refilled, and other times they want something brand new. We spend most of our hours on the floor or at the heavy sewing machines. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting the heavy cotton bundles and making sure the stitching is tight. The shop gets a bit cramped because mattresses take up so much room, but we manage to keep it organized enough to work. We have been in Vadodara for a while now, and our routine doesn't change much. We start in the morning, get the cotton ready, and work until it's time to close up. It's a simple life running a local shop like this, just providing what the neighbors need for their homes so they can sleep well.
