Out here in Makarpura GIDC, things are always moving. Our place is C1-B/642 and 643, right near where GCEL is located. You can’t miss the sound of the machines once you get close to our gate. We work on converting products, which basically means a lot of rolls and cutting and winding stuff all day long. It gets dusty, and the noise can be a bit much if you aren't used to it. The floor is covered in scrap bits sometimes, but we try to sweep up before the next shift starts. It’s a group of about twelve of us mostly. Some of the guys have been here since the machines were first bolted down. We don’t use a lot of big words to describe what we do. We just make sure the tension on the rolls is right so the material doesn’t tear. There’s a small desk for the accounts, but most of the talking happens standing up near the heavy machinery. We keep an eye on the weather because when it gets too humid, the paper or film we use starts acting differently. It’s a bit of a headache, but we manage. We’ve had some long nights when a big order needs to be loaded onto the trucks by morning. It's hard work, but it keeps us busy and the tea guy knows exactly when to show up. We usually head home tired.
