Kala Gurjari

If you look for us in the Sai Vatika Complex, we are at number 2. It’s right there at Baranpura Naka, and honestly, the traffic at the intersection can be a bit much during the evening rush. We are opposite the Lehripura New Road, so it’s a central enough spot for Kala Gurjari. The shop is filled with all sorts of things, mostly fabrics and handcrafted items that have that specific smell of dyes and old wood. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who know where everything is stored. The shelves are a bit high, so we’re always reaching for the wooden ladder. It’s not a modern mall kind of place; it feels more like a traditional shop where things are piled up according to size. We try to keep the front tidy, but once we start showing people the different patterns and colors, the glass counters get covered pretty quickly. We’ve had some of the same customers for years who just drop in to see what’s new or just to say hello. Sometimes we sit on the stools and talk about the weather while we wait for the lunch break. It's a simple way to run a business. We don't have a website that we update every day or anything like that. We just open up in the morning and see who comes through the door. The complex is a bit older now, but it suits us just fine for the work we do.
