Working in Udupi, specifically around the Shirva area, means we spend a lot of time out in the sun looking at different plots of land. Our main spot is over at Gomes Baug, where we handle the administrative side of things. It is a small office, nothing too fancy, just some desks and maps pinned to the walls. We spend our days talking to people who want to build something or are looking for a bit of land to call their own. The weather here in Karnataka can be quite something, with the heavy rains turning the sites into mud pits, but we keep going regardless. We have to coordinate with a lot of different workers and make sure the materials arrive when they are supposed to. It is rarely a smooth process, but we deal with the hiccups as they happen. You might see us driving around between sites or standing on a corner discussing a new plan. It is a lot of walking and talking. We have been around this taluq for quite some time now and know how things work locally. We don’t use big words or complicated plans if we can help it. We just try to get the walls up straight and the paperwork sorted out so people can move in. It is tiring work, but it feels okay at the end of the day when we see progress on a project.
