About Govt Higher Primary School – Education in Udupi
Govt Higher Primary School in Heskuthur is right on the Main Road in Shiriyara. This part of Udupi gets a lot of rain, so the school building has that smell of damp earth for a few months every year. It’s a government school, so things are pretty basic. We have the standard classrooms with long benches and big blackboards that need a lot of chalk. The kids come from the nearby farms and houses in the village. Most of them walk or come on bicycles. We serve the midday meals here, which is a big part of the day. You can smell the sambar cooking from the small kitchen area around noon. The teachers here have been around for a long time, some for over ten years. We don't have any fancy signs or a big marketing team. We just open the gates in the morning and wait for the bell to ring. The playground is mostly grass and dirt, and it gets quite muddy when it pours. We try to keep the kids focused on their lessons, even when there are distractions outside on the road. It’s a quiet life for the most part, just teaching the basics and making sure the children are safe until they go home. It is just a regular village school doing what it has always done for the local families here in Shiriyara. We hope the kids enjoy their time here even if it's simple.
