United Brick Industries

Down here in South Tripura, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. United Brick Industries is located on Mahadevbari Road, right near the Union Bank. It’s a handy landmark because everyone knows where the bank is. We’ve been operating in this area for several years now. Making bricks in Tripura depends a lot on the seasons. When the monsoon hits, everything slows down and we spend more time covering things up than actually making anything. Our yard is usually a bit of a mess with clay and mud, but that’s just how a brick field is. We don't have a fancy showroom. If you want to see what we have, you just walk out back and look at the stacks. We have a few guys who have been with us since the beginning. We talk to the bank people sometimes since they are right there, and we see our neighbors every day. It’s a local operation through and through. We supply to people building small houses or fixing up shops around Mahadevbari Road. We don’t use any high-tech systems for tracking things, just a ledger and some good memory. It can be hard work under the sun, but we are used to the heat. We just try to get the orders ready on time so the builders don’t have to wait around for us. It’s just how we keep the lights on and things moving.
