Sardar Battery Services is tucked away inside Nehru Bazar, near the Delhigate side. If you know the bazar, you know how tight the lanes can be and how much is going on at any given moment. Our shop is where we deal with all kinds of batteries for cars, bikes, and home inverters. It’s a heavy job. Lifting lead-acid batteries all day isn't easy on the back. We spend a lot of time testing voltages and checking water levels in the cells. Our hands are almost always stained with some kind of grease or grime. The shop itself is a bit dark and has that specific sharp smell of battery acid and metal. We don't have a fancy waiting room with coffee. Usually, people just stand near the entrance while we check their battery to see if it can be saved or if it’s completely dead. We’ve seen all sorts of old vehicles come through here. We try to give people the truth about their equipment without any unnecessary talk. Sometimes we are out on the street helping someone whose car won't start in the middle of the market traffic. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, especially when it rains and the bazar gets crowded, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We just keep our tools ready and wait for the next person who needs a jump start or a new battery.
