Narendra Singh Kachvaha is the name on the door here at Dhanmandi. We are right at Lkhara Chowk, number 15. If you've ever been to a Dhanmandi, you know it's a place where there's always something being bought or sold. The air usually smells like grain or spices, depending on the day. It’s a loud, bustling part of town and our office is right in the thick of it. I’ve been working here for a long time, and I’ve seen the market change quite a bit over the years. The shop itself is pretty basic. We have some wooden benches for people to sit on while they wait. It’s often quite dusty because of all the movement outside, so we are always sweeping. I handle most of the work myself, though sometimes a family member helps out. It’s a lot of talk and a lot of keeping track of numbers. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just talk to people face to face. It’s the way business has always been done around here. Sometimes we stay late when the market is particularly busy. It’s hard work, and my back usually aches by the end of the day. But it’s a good community and we all know each other. Lkhara Chowk is a landmark that everyone knows, so it’s easy to find us if you’re looking. Most people just walk in without an appointment.
