Nakoda Bartan Store

If you go to Haridas Ji Ki Magri, number 13, you will find our kitchenware shop. We have been selling all sorts of pots and pans for a long time. The sound of steel clinking is what we hear all day long. We have everything from big pressure cookers to tiny spoons. It’s a lot of metal to keep clean and shiny, so we spend a good amount of time dusting the shelves. People come from the surrounding areas when they are setting up a new kitchen. We also have those big containers people need for storing grain. The store gets really crowded during the festival seasons because everyone wants to buy something new for their house. We have boxes piled up in the back and sometimes in the front too. It’s not a fancy showroom, it’s just a regular store where you can find what you need for cooking. I usually sit near the entrance so I can see everyone coming in. We don't use fancy labels for everything; we just know the prices by heart. If a customer wants a discount, we talk about it over a cup of tea. It’s a friendly way of doing things. The neighborhood is growing, so we see new faces every week. We just try to keep the stock full and make sure the items are of good quality so they don't break easily. It's honest work and we enjoy being part of the local market.
