It’s a place where you can hear the clanging of metal all day long as we move pots and pans around. We have everything from small spice boxes to those massive tubs used for washing clothes. The shop is quite deep, and the shelves go all the way to the back, filled with shimmering stainless steel. Sometimes it feels like there isn't enough space for all the stock we have. We spend a lot of time polishing the front displays because the dust from the chowk settles on everything so quickly. Most of the people who come in are local families looking for something for their kitchen or a gift for a wedding. We don't use any fancy sales talk. We just show them what we have and let them decide. The floor is made of old tiles that have been worn down by years of people walking on them. In the evenings, the market gets even louder, but we just stay focused on our work. Sometimes we help a customer carry a heavy set of dishes out to their scooter parked nearby. It’s a basic way of living, but we like being in Mukherji Chowk. It’s where the heart of the city's trade is, and we’ve been a part of it for a long time now.
