Mahaveer B Ed Collage is out in Village Hariyav, which is past Shishvi in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan. Being in a rural area means things move at a much slower pace than they do in the city. The college is surrounded by open fields, and on a clear day, you can see the hills off in the distance. The building itself is a simple concrete structure with wide hallways designed to keep the air moving during the heat. Since we are in a village, we often have locals walking by and sometimes a stray cow wanders onto the main path. The classrooms are very basic, with simple wooden benches and blackboards. We do not have air conditioning, so we rely on the large windows and the ceiling fans to stay cool during the hot Rajasthan summers. The staff room is just a small space with a big table where we all sit and eat our lunch together. It is a quiet place for most of the day, except for the noise when the students are changing classes. We still handle a lot of our paperwork by hand because the power can be a bit unreliable this far out. People in the village know us well, and we often have parents stopping by just to chat for a bit. It is a local spot for getting a degree and moving on.
