Dev Darshen Devpura

Our place is at Court Chauraha 19, which is a pretty hectic spot to be in most days. Dev Darshen Devpura is situated right where all the roads meet, so there is never a dull moment. You can hear the traffic wardens and the rickshaw drivers shouting most of the morning. The building itself is an older one, and we are at number 19. We have a heavy iron door that we have to grease every few weeks so it doesn't squeak. Inside, the walls are painted a light blue that has faded over the years. We have a few cupboards full of records and a small area where we keep the water cooler. It is a bit of a climb to get to us if you are not used to the stairs. Most of the people who come here are looking for the courts or have some business nearby. We know the tea seller across the street very well; he brings us snacks in the afternoon when things slow down a bit. The office feels lived-in, with coffee stains on some of the desks and a clock that’s always five minutes fast. We don’t bother fixing it because we’re used to it by now. It’s just a regular local spot where we get our daily work done without much fuss or bother. We’ve stayed here because it’s convenient for everyone and we know the neighborhood.
