At Ashok Transport Co, we’ve set up our base at 22-C in Pratap Nagar. Being in Transport Nagar means we are surrounded by other transport companies and mechanics all day long. It’s right off Chittor Road, so it’s easy for the big rigs to get in and out, though it does get pretty congested during the peak hours. Our office is a simple place where the walls are covered with old calendars and maps. We spend most of our time dealing with drivers and making sure the cargo is loaded right. It’s not a glamorous job. There’s a lot of grease and diesel smell in the air around here. We started this business with just a couple of vehicles and slowly added more as the years went by. We don't use any complicated software to run things. It’s mostly just common sense and knowing the routes. We’ve built a lot of relationships with people along Chittor Road. When something goes wrong on the road, we’re the ones who have to figure it out, whether it’s a flat tire or a late delivery. We don’t make any grand claims about being the best. We just focus on the task at hand and try to stay busy. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s what we know how to do. Sometimes we just sit out front and watch the trucks pass by while drinking tea.
