Being right across from Transport Nagar means there is never a quiet moment for us here. We are located on the Chittor Road side in Pratap Nagar and the sound of horns is basically our background music. The office is small and usually smells a bit like engine oil because the drivers are always coming in to report something. We have a bench outside where the guys sit while they wait for their next turn. It’s been a long road for Ashish Roadways. We started out with just one truck and now we manage things from this little spot. The traffic on the road can be a nightmare during the evening but we’ve learned to work around it. My brother handles the accounts and I usually deal with the people coming in. We don't use any of those fancy tracking systems you see on TV. We just call the drivers on their mobiles and hope the signal is good enough. Most of the time it is. The tea stall nearby makes the best ginger tea and that’s what keeps us going through the long shifts. It’s dusty work and your clothes always end up looking a bit grey by the end of the day. We don't mind it much. This is just the way life goes in the transport hub. We keep the registers updated by hand and try to make sure everyone gets paid on time. It is what it is.
