Out here in Tonk, right behind the Bisalpur Colony, we’ve got our small office set up. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find Shoji Lal Meena’s son and a few others sorting through papers or talking to local growers who drop by. Being in Rajasthan, the weather really dictates how our days go. Some afternoons are just too hot to do much, so we start early when the air is still a bit cool. We mostly focus on getting these farmer organizations organized so they can actually get a fair deal for what they grow. It isn't fancy work, mostly just making sure the paperwork is right and the right people are talking to each other. Sometimes the office is a mess with registers and tea cups, but that's how it goes when things are moving. People around here know where to find us if they have a problem with their crops or need to figure out the next steps for their collective. We spend a lot of time on the phone or out in the fields, seeing what's actually happening on the ground instead of just sitting behind a desk all day. It’s hard work, and sometimes the bureaucracy gets frustrating, but it’s what we do. We don't have a big corporate team, just local folks trying to make the farming life a little more manageable for everyone in the Tonk area. We just keep our heads down and work.
