Venkatesh Bricks

Our brick kiln is located at 2-51 Kosa Mada Street in Tiruvennanallur. It’s a family business that has been passed down through the years. We spend our days out in the sun, making sure the clay is mixed right and the fires are burning at the correct temperature in the ovens. It’s a very physical job and your hands are always dirty with red mud and soot. Tiruvennanallur is a small place, so we mostly provide bricks for local houses and garden walls. We don’t have a big fleet of trucks, just a couple of old ones that have seen better days. Kosa Mada Street is usually quiet, except for when we are loading up a fresh batch of bricks for a customer. You can smell the smoke from the kilns when you get close to our yard. We don't use any high-tech equipment, just the same traditional methods our father taught us when we were boys. It’s hard on the back, but it feels good to see a finished house in the neighborhood that was built with our bricks. We don't have a website or any fancy advertisements. If people need bricks, they just come to the street and find us. Sometimes we have to tell people to wait a few weeks if the weather has been rainy. Bricks don't dry well when it's damp outside. We just take it one day at a time and hope for clear skies.
