Sarathy Bricks

Sarathy Bricks is located right in Marvadi village, over in Annur Taluk. If you know this area, you know it is mostly about the land and getting work done outside. We spend our days dealing with a lot of mud and water. The weather really dictates what we can do. When it rains, everything slows down and we just wait it out under the roof. Making bricks is not a clean job, so we are usually covered in some kind of dirt by noon. We have a small group of workers from around the village who have been helping us for a long time. It is not a huge operation like the ones you see in the city, but we manage to keep the kiln going. The red soil around here is good for what we do. We don't have any big signs or a front desk. Most people just walk in or call us on the phone when they see the stacks of bricks from the road. Sometimes the tractor breaks down and we have to spend half the morning fixing it with whatever tools are lying around. It is a simple way to make a living. We just focus on getting the stacks right and making sure the fire stays at the right heat. It is a lot of physical work, especially when the sun is out in full force. We don't have much to show off, just the bricks we make.
