L R S Camphor

We are over at 89 Gandhi Nagar, right in Tiruvennanallur. My uncle started this place years ago and now I’m the one mostly looking after it. We make camphor tablets here. It’s a bit of a dusty job if I’m being honest but you get used to the smell after a while. Most days we are just busy with the machines and packing things into small bags. It is not a very big shop but we manage. Gandhi Nagar is a loud area with lots of people walking by all the time. Sometimes neighbors stop in just to say hello while we are working. We use basic equipment and try to keep everything moving. The camphor is what people use for their pujas at home. Sometimes we run out of stock when there is a festival coming up and then we have to work late into the evening. It gets hot inside during the summer months. We don't have fancy cooling systems here. We just open the windows and keep going. Usually, there are three of us working. My brother helps out when he can. We don't spend money on advertising or anything like that. People just know where we are. If you walk down the street you can usually smell the camphor before you even see the sign for number 89. It is a simple life and we like it that way. We just keep our heads down and do the work day after day.
