Our place is at 4 1342 Kambar Salai, in the Anna Nagar Middle area of Thiruninravur, Chennai. Being the Department Of Post India means we are right in the middle of everything that happens in the neighborhood. Every day, people come in with letters for their families or packages they need to send across the country. It’s a lot of sorting through mail and making sure the stamps are right. The office can get pretty hot during the summer, but we keep the windows open and the fans on. We’ve got a long counter where we talk to the people who stop by. Some of them have been coming here for years, and we know their faces pretty well. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just our scales for weighing boxes and the bags we use to move the mail around. Thiruninravur is a nice place to work, even if the traffic on Kambar Salai gets a bit backed up in the evenings. We spend a lot of time on our feet or sitting on stools behind the counter. It’s a steady kind of work that doesn't really change much from day to day. We just make sure that every letter that comes in gets to where it’s supposed to go. It’s about being part of the community and doing something that people rely on without thinking about it too much. We just keep sorting and stamping until the mail bags are full and ready to go.
