Sri Durga Traders

We are right across from M.P.S. Theatre on Mangalam Road. If there’s a big movie release, the street gets really crowded and we can barely get our delivery vans out. Parapalayam is a busy area so there is always noise from the traffic and people walking by. Our shop is full of stock and we spend half our time just counting boxes. It’s a trading business, so things come in and go out constantly. We have a small counter where we talk to everyone who walks in. The floor is concrete and gets a bit worn down from all the heavy lifting. We don't have any flashy displays. Most of the time, the shelves are just packed tight with whatever we’re selling that week. My brother and I usually handle the accounts on a small wooden table in the back. It’s nothing special to look at, but it’s where we spend our whole day. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use flashlights to find what people are looking for. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of the other shopkeepers around. We keep the doors open even when it’s raining. It’s a lot of manual work, checking invoices and making sure the counts are right. We just keep going until the shutters go down at night and we head back to our families. It’s just the way it works here every single day and we don't expect it to change much.
