Senthil Concrete

Down here on Uthukuli Road in Velampalayam, we spend our days surrounded by the hum of the yard. It’s number 87 if you’re looking for us, though you can usually hear the work happening before you see the gate. The sun gets pretty hot out here in the afternoons, so we try to get most of the heavy stuff moving early in the morning. We’ve got a small crew, and everyone knows what they’re supposed to be doing. There isn't much formality. Most of us show up in boots that have seen better days, and there’s always a bit of sand or gravel underfoot. The office is small and usually has someone’s lunch warming up or a stack of bills waiting to be filed. We know the local builders well because they’ve been coming to this part of Velampalayam for ages. Sometimes things get a bit chaotic when three trucks show up at once and the gate gets blocked, but we sort it out eventually. We don’t have a fancy waiting room or anything like that. People just stop by, talk about what they need for their project, and we see if we can get it done for them. It’s a straightforward life. We aren't trying to be anything we're not. We just run Senthil Concrete the way we always have, one day at a time, making sure the loads are right and the machines stay running.
