Thambi Travels

You can find Thambi Travels at 75 A/7 on Madurai Road, right across from the Barani Hotel. The junction area is a hectic place to work, but we like being where the action is. Our office is just a simple room with a couple of desks and some wooden benches for people who are waiting for their ride. We spend a lot of time looking out the window at the traffic on Madurai Road, watching the buses and the autos go by. It’s dusty work because of all the construction and the vehicles, so we are always dusting off the table. We have a big board where we write down the trips for the day in chalk. It’s not a very modern way of doing things, but it works for us and we haven't seen a reason to change it yet. The drivers usually hang out near the entrance of the hotel across the street when they aren't on a job. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit in the dark for a bit, talking to whoever is around. The Barani Hotel is a good landmark, so people don't usually have a hard time finding where we are. We keep a small radio playing some old songs to keep things from being too quiet when there aren't many customers. It’s just a regular local business, and we've been sitting in this same spot for quite some time now.
