Down in Tinsukia, specifically in Inthem Nagapather, you’ll find Kunhi Tea Producer Company Limited. We are based right near the Pengaree police station area. If you know this part of Assam, you know it’s all about the tea. We are part of that whole scene, working with the leaves every single day. Our setup in Inthem is pretty straightforward. We have a space where we bring the tea in and manage the business side of things. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning and soft chairs. It’s more of a boots-on-the-ground kind of operation. We have a lot of local folks involved because tea is what we know best around here. The weather in Tinsukia dictates most of what we do. If it rains too much or not enough, our whole week changes. We just take it as it comes. We aren’t trying to be some massive tea estate that nobody can talk to. We are just a group of producers trying to get a fair shake. You can usually find one of us around the office if you have questions, though we’re often out in the fields checking on the plants. It’s a long process from the bush to the cup, and we handle the middle parts of that journey. It’s steady work, and it keeps the village moving. We’re just proud to be doing something that’s been part of our families for generations. It is hard work but it is ours.
