Heingang Educated Farmers Producercompany Limited is located over at Khabam Maning Leikai. It’s a bit of a mouthful of a name, but it represents who we are. We are mostly folks from around here who went to school but decided to stay or come back to work the land. Our office is at Nongthombam Irabot Singh’s place at 148-6Na. It’s a local spot that everyone knows. We spend a lot of time talking about how to do things a bit differently than the old ways while still respecting what our parents taught us. The group helps us stay organized. Farming in Khabam can be tricky sometimes because of the way the land sits, but we manage. We aren't trying to be some big corporation. We just want to make sure the farmers in our area get a fair shake when it comes to selling what they grow. Sometimes we meet under the porch and just talk through the problems of the week. Maybe the price of seeds went up or someone's tractor broke down. That’s what this company is for, really. Just a way to look out for each other. It’s not always easy work, and there are long days in the sun, but it feels right to be doing this together. We try to keep things simple and honest. If you are passing through Ied-Iv, you’ll find us busy with the seasonal crops. There is always something to do, whether it is weeding or fixing a fence, and we just keep going.
