Our group, Tamil Solai Collective Farmer Producercompany Limited, is based on Nandha Gopal Street in Odaipatti. It’s in the Uthamapalayam Taluk area of Theni. Living in 625518, you get used to the way things move slowly. We decided to start this company because we wanted to have more say in how our produce is handled. We aren't business people by training. We are people who have had dirt under our fingernails our whole lives. The office on Nandha Gopal Street is where we keep our files and meet up after the sun goes down. It’s nothing special, just some chairs and a table. Theni is a beautiful place to farm, but it has its challenges like anywhere else. We share what we know and help each other with tools or advice. It isn't a polished operation. Sometimes we argue about the best way to do things, but we always figure it out. We don't use big words or have a lot of meetings for no reason. We just focus on the harvest and making sure everyone gets their fair share of the money. It’s a very local thing, and we aren't looking to grow into some huge corporation. We just want to do right by the families in Odaipatti. It’s a simple life and we are just trying to make it a little bit better for everyone involved by working together instead of alone.
